About Me
Faith Malton
Oil painter, based in East Yorkshire, UK
Faith Malton is a painter born and raised in East Yorkshire. She is renowned for her monotone oil paintings inspired by the classic world of film noir, French cinema, pulp fiction and Art Deco. She explores the stereotypes, themes, characteristics and aesthetics they have created and her paintings are often cinematic in nature. Her understanding of lighting and shadow create depth to her imagery, while also allowing her to manipulate the mood and tone of the painting. Malton portrays imagery of the past but raises contemporary questions throughout her work, often using images from the first-wave feminism period.

Malton's work has recently been exhibited in the York St John's Final Year Show 2023, where she focused on the representation and psychology of woman within noir films, creating tonal portraits which incorporated characteristics associated with film noir, including the fatale gaze of the femme fatale.

Currently, Malton is exploring the use and impact of colour in a series of floral paintings inspired by the Dutch Golden Age.
